Introduction
Welcome to the Cardiac Surgery Service at the LAC+USC Medical Center. This is a very exciting time to have joined our service. It is in a rapidly growing phase. We not only count with state-of-the-art technology in cardiac surgery procedures, but in diagnostic and support services as well. Our coverage includes consultation services not only to the Cardiology Service but to the Trauma Service and Neonatology Unit as well. We also perform surgery of the aorta and surgery for adult congenital heart disease. Our most frequent procedures include coronary artery bypass and valvular surgery. We are in the process of introducing new techniques in cadaver graft implantation of various heart valves.
Topics
Our main goals in the Cardiac Surgery Service are:
- To render safe and state-of-the-art surgery to our patients at the LAC+USC Medical Center.
- To be as available and supportive as possible to our consulting services.
- To give our house officers and medical students the finest academic training in this discipline.
Included are some basic facts on the various aspects of cardiac surgery. These facts are the most commonly discussed issues in this rotation. Read them and your lives will be alot easier.
