Research Interests
Dr. Kim’s research interests focus on cardiac genetics, first using stem cell technology in the laboratory to understand the relationship between DNA mutation and cardiac phenotype and second, by melding cutting-edge gene discovery platforms with the clinical management of children undergoing congenital heart surgery, as a principal investigator on the NIH/NHLBI sponsored program project CHD-GENES. By carefully relating genetic changes to functional or physiologic differences in how individual children respond to cardiac surgery, he hopes to develop new paradigms in pediatric cardiac surgery that optimize patient care by tailoring surgical management to each individual patient.
