The Heart and Lung Transplant Program at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is a national and international referral center for children with end stage heart and lung disease. Patients are managed by a comprehensive, coordinated transplant team.
- Heart Transplant
Cardiac transplantation has become a viable treatment option for patients with end stage cardiac disease. The USC cardiopulmonary transplant team is headed by Vaughn A. Starnes, M.D., a world-recognized leader and innovator in heart, heart-lung, lung transplantation, and cardiothoracic surgery. - Living Donor Lung Transplantation
Lobar pulmonary transplantation at our institution has expanded from implantation of a unilateral lobe in neonatal/pediatric patient to bilateral living related lobar transplantation in selected patients with cystic fibrosis. Donor lobectomies for living-related lobar transplantation require a thorough evaluation of potential donors, as well as modification of standard lobectomy and pulmonary preservation techniques.
